We are in the process of submitting plans to the local authority for an extension to our existing working yard in Culford. We want to be able to recycle more waste on site here at Balloon Barn Farm and stop transporting certain recyclable materials further afield for recycling. Not only does this divert waste from landfill but by recycling more on site we eliminate running extra lorries to sites around Bury St Edmunds. We are hoping that this site extension is approved as it will allow for us to stockpile more recycled products and skips on site, as well extending our baling operation and starting a wood shredding operation. Our pickers continue to work hard sorting waste by hand for recycling and we are well on our way to raising our recycling percentages by the end of the year.
Another exciting new development is our waste disposal work with St. Nicholas Hospice. We have just had a roll on/off bin commissioned for the Hospice in their signature colour of pink! This is to be based at their retail centre and we have agreed discounted rates on their waste disposal needs. They are a registered charity and do fantastic work with their fund raising and we are proud to be working alongside them.

We are once again working closely with BASF on their grain trials and providing skips for a number of sites on farms in the county. So if you see one of our skips sitting in the middle of a field don’t panic it is meant to be there!!!! BASF researches the active ingredients in crop protection. They make sure that the right ingredients work in the right way with them targeting the crop pest and not beneficial organisms such as bees. Their grain trials allow new products to be tested and we supply skips for the disposal of the tested grain.

Heading in to the summer we are preparing for our busiest time of year. We are currently stock piling all baled plastics for recycling. Once the price on this increases we will start exporting again. We are lucky to have enough storage facilities to be able to stockpile in this way.

Another busy month has flown by at Culford Waste!
We had a fantastic day at the South Suffolk Show in the glorious sunshine and proudly took home 2nd place prize for our trade stand. A big thank you to all our customers who came and visited us on the day and stopped for a drink and a chat, it was great to see you all!
We have been busy in the transfer station again employing more pickers to help sort and segregate the waste for recycling. This means we are going to be producing more bales for recycling which will be winging their way to the Far East very soon!

We are working our way towards spring time now and work is picking up. Our skip hire is as popular as ever and we are now branching out even further with our Thetford service expanding. Happy New Year to all our customers!
The year has started off well for Culford Waste Ltd with our new cardboard conveyer belt in full working order. This will enable us to sort the cardboard waste more effectively thereby increasing our recycling figures. Our recycling drive will be in full swing this year once again with our aim to increase our recycling percentages to around 90% by the end of the year. We are further recycling our timber waste by shredding timber to provide fuel for power stations.

We are pleased to announce that we have just purchased a new roll on lorry to cope with the ever increasing workload. We offer a roll on service with bins sized at 15, 20, 30 and 40 cubic yards for bulk waste disposal. We hope to have this new lorry on the road in the New Year so look out for it on Suffolk’s roads!
With the build up to the festive season under way we are digging out the decorations and getting in the celebratory spirit! We are finally moved in and settled in our new office block on site at Balloon Barn Farm and our office hours continue to be 7am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 1pm Saturday.

Our grab & tipper lorry has proved as popular as ever this month and so the purchase of a new hiab hook loader skip will enable us to keep up with the demand of our work load. The grab lorry is a useful and cost effective method of removing large quantities of waste from site.
We are on the verge of moving into our new custom built offices here at Balloon Barn Farm. Excitement is mounting as S H Design & Build put the finishing touches to our new open plan modern office building with boardroom and canteen facilities. Always thinking environmentally we have installed a wood burner and will recycle wood by burning it to create heating for the office complex. We hope to be in and settled by the end of August!

We are pleased to announce that our recycling drive here at Culford Waste Ltd is continuing with the addition of a baler for plastic waste. We have been trialling a baler on site here and baling all segregated plastic waste. We will then be able to sell these bales abroad for recycling. We are now proud to say that we recycle up to 90% of all construction waste and up to 85% of all other waste received in our transfer station.
All our drivers will be undergoing CPC training this month keeping us up to date of any changes in the law with regards to driving.

Culford Waste took second prize this year at the South Suffolk Show, Ampton for the most innovative trade stand. After much hard work, an early start and plenty of sun cream on a lovely hot day we all set off for this years show! Our managing director, Richard Spittle, was show president this year and did a fantastic job visiting all the trade stands throughout the day and at the prize giving later in the afternoon! Thanks to all those who visited our stand at the show and well done Culford Waste Ltd for winning second prize!!
